July's Middletown book discussion title: English Creek

The MUM Book Discussion group will next meet on Thursday, July 19 to discuss Ivan Doig's English Creek.  We will meet at 12 pm in Room 124 in the Library.

Free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lemonade, and mints at the Middletown Library during Finals Week!

The Library will offer free coffee, tea, hot cocoa, lemonade, and mints all during finals week, starting on Saturday, May 12th and last through Friday, May 18th. 

It will be set up in our entrance area from roughly 12:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, 8:00am to 8:00pm, Monday through Thursday, and from 8:00am to 5:00pm on Friday. Please drop on by and enjoy a cup!

It's our way of making your last minute studying and paper/project preparation a bit more relaxing. Thanks for being a part of our library community!

Make glowing flowers for May, and to give away, at the TEC Lab!

In this month's TEC Lab workshop, we're going to make glowing flowers to enjoy as May begins.  We'll also prepare some to deliver to patients at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati to light up their hearts.

Come by to make one for yourself, and help us prepare some to give away.

Drop in on May 2, between 11am-1pm OR between 6pm-8pm in Room 125 Gardner-Harvey Library.

We'll create flowers from paper, add stems, and insert LED lights and batteries to add a little spark (as it were).  Other flower projects, and LED projects, will also be available for your making delight.

All are welcome to attend.

Textbook Alternatives: How Three Regionals Faculty Members Made Them Work

Join us on Monday, April 23 from Noon to 1:00pm for a discussion of how three Miami Regionals faculty have incorporated textbook alternatives into one or more of their courses.  

Our panel features:

Camilla McMahon, Assistant Professor of Psychological Science

Dan Young, Assistant Professor of Political Science

Come hear about their experiences in choosing textbook alternatives and using them with their students.  We will also discuss how the Regional Campus Libraries can assist you in finding textbook alternatives.

This event will be simulcast between Room 300 Phelps (Hamilton) and Room 111 Thesken (Middletown), with panelists and librarians in each room.

Upcycling T-shirts to Tote Bags in the TEC Lab!

Stop by the TEC Lab Tuesday, April 17th between 1pm and 3pm and learn how to upcycle a t-shirt into a tote bag! We will have a beginner and advanced version of the bag to cover various skill levels.

Create 3D hologram lamps at the TEC Lab!

Want to try your hand at building a lamp?

For April’s First Wednesday TEC Lab (April 4, 11am-1pm OR 6pm-8pm), we will be trying our hand at creating 3D hologram lamps.

Interested in the laser cutter? We will be using it! Always wanted to use a dremel tool?
We are gonna use those too! Been aching to try your hand at wiring lights? We have the project for you!

As this is one of our more elaborate projects, please allow ample time to finish your work of art.  RSVP to hicksjl2@miamioh.edu to save a spot. RSVP is encouraged, but not required.

"National Parks with Dr. Tammie Gerke" is a speaking and video series presented by the Gardner Harvey Library and Dr. Tammie Gerke - a professor of Geology at Miami University Regionals. Each session will focus on a different national park.

This time, Dr. Gerke will discuss Acadia National Park. Stop by to hear about the geology and other interesting information about the park.

This session will run Tuesday, April 24th from 4:45pm to 6:15pm with time for questions and discussion. The event will be held in the seating area at the entrance of the Gardner-Harvey Library.

Virtual Reality: Make Your Own Viewer at the TEC Lab!

Have you wanted to experience virtual reality (VR) but aren't ready to spend the big bucks on an Oculus Rift or an HTC Vive? Did you know your could make a working VR viewer using just your smartphone and some cardboard?  Now you can! Using a Google Cardboard viewer and a free app on your phone, you can watch 360 degree videos and interact with immersive 3D environments.  

Come to the TEC Lab on Thursday, March 29, between 11:00am-1:00pm AND 6:00pm-8:00pm.  We will supply free Google Cardboard viewers, assemble them, and show you how to experience this growing VR world of free videos and images.  We will also have some other types of viewers on hand for you to try.  No smartphone?  That's OK - we'll have some other devices on hand for you to use.

Prepare for spring break with personalized cups made at the TEC Lab!

Stop by the Gardner-Harvey Library's TEC Lab (Room 125) on Thursday, March 15th from 11:00am to 2:00pm to create a personalized water bottle, wine glass, or jar with our cricut cutter.

We will be creating vinyl designs and applying them to the container of your choice.

Limited supplies will be available or feel free to bring your own blank container. You may RSVP to hicksjl2@miamioh.edu if you would like to reserve a wine glass, water bottle, or glass jar for the workshop.
