How to TEC: Basic Wiring, How to 3D Print


For this First Wednesday TEC Lab Workshop, how to wire a basic light as well as gain information on 3D printing. Participants will be able to use their knowledge to design their own 3D printed light.

This workshop is free and open to the public.

Join us on May 1 at anytime between 11am-1pm & 6pm-8pm in the TEC Lab (Room 125) at Gardner-Harvey Library.

Dr. Tammie Gerke’s National Park Talks: Yosemite National Park (at Middletown)


Join us as Dr. Gerke talks talks about Yosemite National Park. Stop by to hear about the geology and other interesting information about the park.

This session will run Wednesday, April 24th from 4:45pm to 6:15pm with time for questions and discussion. The event will be held in the seating area at the entrance of the Gardner-Harvey Library.

All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.

TEC Lab Guest Maker: Dr. Carolyn Keiffer (Succulents and Bird House planters)

Join us on Tuesday, April 16 between 3:30pm and 4:30pm to build a small bird house planter and add succulents to it. This workshop will be led by Dr. Carolyn Keiffer, a Biology professor at Miami University Middletown who specializes in botany.

Dr. Keiffer will be offering her knowledge of plants to participants as they create the bird houses.

Stop in the TEC Lab (Room 125 GRD) at any time during the workshop hours. This workshop is free and open to the public.

VolunTEC Lab: Pet Beds (make them for yourself and others)


For our final VolunTEC Lab of the semester, participants will be making no-sew pet beds which will be donated to PAWS no kill shelter. Participants are welcome to make one to take and one to donate.

The program will run on Tuesday, April 9, between 11am and 1pm in Hawk Haven on the main floor of Johnston Hall.

How to TEC: Use a Laser to Engrave and Make a Stamp



For this First Wednesday TEC Lab Workshop, participants will be learning the basics of using a laser engraver. Participants will be able to use their knowledge to design their own rubber stamp.

TEC Lab Guest Maker: Dr. Gerke teaches you how to mend clothes




Join us in the Gardner Harvey Library TEC Lab (GRD 125) on Tuesday, March 19, to learn about basic sewing and mending techniques by Miami’s very own Geology Professor Tammie Gerke.

The program will run from 12pm-1pm covering the basics so that next time you need to add a button or stitch a hole in your shirt, you will have the skills to save your clothing!

If you would like to learn specific techniques, Dr. Gerke has sweet skills with hand sewing as well as sewing machines she would love to share. Bring an item you would like to repair, or stop in and we will have sample pieces to work with.

VolunTEC Lab: Grip Socks (make them for yourself and others)



For our second VolunTEC Lab of the semester, we will be making  grip socks for local cancer center patients. Participants can add fun designs or words of encouragement to socks so patients can stay warm and safe from slips.

Pairs of grip socks can be made to keep, donate, or both!

The program will run on Tuesday, March 12, between 11am and 1pm in Hawk Haven on the main floor of Johnston Hall.

New books added to the Gardner-Harvey Library in February!


We are adding many new items to the collection each month, and making sure that you can see them on display! Watch for our recent DVD display, as well as our ongoing New Books shelves (as shown above). See our new materials list of items we added to the collection in February! We added 155 books, e-books, DVDs, and other items during that time, thanks to your selections and suggestions. The list can be sorted by call number, area of our collection, or by title.
