Heroes Week Book Discussion: The Yellow Birds

On November 6, join us in the Gardner-Harvey Library from 12pm-1pm to discuss the book The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers.  The book is a national bestseller, a National Book Award finalist, and a recent motion picture adaptation (we have a copy of the film).

This event is being held as part of Heroes Week, which runs from November 5-12.  We will meet in Room 123 in the Library.

Here is a brief summary of the book:

""The war tried to kill us in the spring," begins this unforgettable account of friendship and loss. In Al Tafar, Iraq, twenty-one-year-old Private Bartle and eighteen-year-old Private Murphy have been dropped into a war neither is prepared for. When Bartle makes a promise to bring Murphy safely home, the two are inextricably bound together. The young soldiers fight to protect each other from the insurgents, physical fatigue, and the mental stress that comes from constant danger. As reality begins to blur, Murphy becomes increasingly unmoored - and Bartle must take actions he never could have imagined."
